In 1993, when I traveled to Copenhagen for my first international choir festival, I made friends with our Danish tour guide Katrine, who was only a few years older than me. Since then, we've been writing letters, which is pretty amazing. Literally, we've been continuous international pen pals for 15 years.
I just got my most recent letter from her, and I wrote her back and threw away the envelope, thinking that I surely had her address on my address list in my computer.
I didn't. I thought maybe it could be in my old PDA...but I gave it to my Mom and she had already erased the memory. Then I thought it could be in my new PDA, but the battery is dead and the charger is nowhere to be found. I went to buy a new one, but the PDA is an older model and they didn't have a compatible charger. So I googled my friend's name, and I definitely found some work information (she works in IT for the Danish Commerce and Companies Agency). But no home address.
So I googled "Danish address directory" and found what is basically Danish qwestdex.com. And there I found her! She has a pretty common Danish last name - Vedel - but I made my way through all the Eriks and Jenses to Katrine. Crisis averted! I must say that I am glad not to be ending a 15-year correspondence due to my absent-mindedness.
Yay for technology!

Did you maintain your written correspondence with Doreen as well?
:)
Nice internet detective work.
:) - Never did write to Doreen, though I really wanted to.
